About
After losing Dana in May of 2021, her lifelong best friend, Jaclyn Story-Ward wanted to ensure Dana’s legacy left a lasting impression in the community.
She had watched Dana fight pancreatic cancer so courageously and was inspired by the strength Dana possessed during the last months of her life. Jaclyn also knew there was an ongoing need for Dana’s children to receive support after their mom’s fight for her own life had ended.
Dana had always expressed her desires for her kids to know they had a voice and a support system even after cancer had so tragically taken her voice and her life. Jaclyn was adamant that she would see that goal through for her best friend.
Jaclyn teamed up with Holly Drayton, Dana’s personal fitness and life coach and together these two decided to make sure that Dana’s last wishes were fulfilled both for her children as well as help other families and children in the community who have been impacted by cancer. Holly and Jaclyn went to work and the beginning of Dana’s Helping Heroes originated.
The hope for Danas’ Helping Heroes Organization is that a little bit of the heroism Dana Michelle Velotta displayed and exhibited during her last days is spread into the community and others are inspired to make a difference for those who have been affected by cancer. Paying it forward in every possible way shows those who may be suffering or hurting that at least they are not alone, and that is critical in their walk.
“We may not can change or cure this terrible disease, but we CAN help those through their diagnosis and prognosis.” Jaclyn speaks vividly to the emotion she feels in remembering watching her best friend suffer with stage four pancreatic cancer with the most positive outlook and attitude.
“Dana refused to let cancer stop her or her love for others. I learned that just being there for her during her last days was the most important gift I gave her. Watching her love and appreciate me for that lets me know that others need the same” said Jaclyn.
How can you help? How can we grow? Being one of Dana’s Heroes is easy… Just love and help in any way that you can. We will need volunteers to work events, financial donations, people to share on social media platforms, apparel purchases and so much more. Dana would be so proud of the heroic efforts of each of you as we continue this journey taking care of her precious children and supporting this Bulldog community that she loved so much. We thank you in advance for your ongoing love and support on her behalf.
